Sunray or Sunray Sportswear is a manufacturer of Japanese heritage sportswear apparel based near Perranporth, Cornwall, with knitted jersey production taking place in Japan on a unique vintage knitting machine used long before commercial mechanisation compromised jersey production.

This cherished and beautifully manual machine can only produce 1m of jersey an hour, with the knitting in a tube method resulting in no side seams that are knitted very slowly to create less tension in the fabric made. The factory in question has been based in Miyazaki for nearly 100 years and once made uniforms for the Imperial Palace. The slow analogue nature of the knitting machine and the time-honoured process demanded by the producer results in every Sunray garment taking at least 1.5 hours to make. Each Sunray tee specs out at a heavyweight built of 260 or 300gsm, with the crewnecks being made from a hefty 450gsm Japanese brushed fleece to create daily wear staples built to last you forever. Keeping sustainability in mind, Sunray uses recycled polyester neck labels, organic wool hang tags made from a rare breed of Dartmoor sheep and fully recyclable packaging for all products with 100% compostable potato starch bags and vegetable glue to keep things plastic free.
